  KPWDC members, please join us lakeside at Codorus State Park on the following dates to practice water skills.

  Open practice dates will be shared with the Colonial Newfoundland Club. The practice area location is below and to the right of  the Bandshell. These open practice dates do not require registration and will not include the use of our boats.

  The following dates are approved:

  May 25, 26, 28, 29

  June 1, 4, 11, 12, 18, 19, 22, 25, 26, 29, 30

  July 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24, 30, 31

  August 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28

  September 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 24, 25, 28, 29

  October 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13

  We are also planning to offer KPWDC members a practice with boats in July, August and September. More details and date(s) to follow. Registration will be required for this practice date, with a $15 fee, in order to cover the cost of towing the boats.

  The KPWDC will hold a practice date, with boats, at Codorus State Park on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

  Each working team can sign up for a morning or afternoon session at the rate of $15 per team.  We will need the morning teams to help unload the boats/set markers and late afternoon help to load the boats onto the trailer. The practice will start at 8:30 am and end at approximately 4:30 pm.  Actual training times will depend on the number of participants.  Please enter a separate registration for each dog. The fee covers the cost of the club towing the boats to and from the site.

  Once you have registered, you will be sent a simple questionnaire regarding your training needs.  We will do our best to provide helpers as needed.  But that means we would also love for you to provide some help as well. After we see the registrations and preferences, a schedule will be created and sent to everyone.

  Register

  A water trial depends on its volunteers to run the event. Each level ( Junior, Apprentice, Working, Courier and Master) requires a minimum of 4 stewards. We asked that you join us this weekend as a volunteer, for either a full or partial day. Volunteers are welcomed  for either Saturday, Sunday or both days. Not all positions require experience or skill. The volunteer responsibilities needed are as follows:

  Gate Steward- Check for presence of a life jacket, appropriate shoes, no attachments on the dogs collar and that the dog is wearing a harness.

  Land Steward- This varies from Junior to Master, but includes throwing a dummy up to 60 feet,  placement of  a gear bag, placement of  a float line  and  holding a dog’s harness at the Junior level. Little experience required, though  some experience required for dummy throwing at the Apprentice level.  

  Rowers- There are two rowers required for Junior, Apprentice, Working, Courier and Master.   One of the two rowers in Junior will just help steady the boat.  Ditto for apprentice ( no rowing or experience required). Both rowers need to row for the other three levels. May include throwing of the dummy.

  Boat Steward- This includes steadying the boat and dropping the float line from the boat.

  Please join us for our two day September 21 & 22, 2024 water trials. Online only entries will be accepted within each test level in the order received. Entries are limited to 35 entries or 8 hours of judging time per judge (2 site trial) for the trial day. A separate registration form is required for each dog. You can register for Saturday, Sunday or both days. Upon registering, a $50 fee will be charged for each dog for each day of entry. Any other items purchased will be displayed as “Extra Costs” on the Review and Confirm page. If you are trialing multiple dogs, a separate registration form is required for each dog. Entries close at 5:00 PM EDT August 25, 2024, or when trial limits are reached. No refunds or cancellations will be made after the closing date. • Annual Membership Meeting and Picnic

  Please join us for an opportunity to meet your Board of Directors for 2024/2025 and fellow members face to face together at the annual picnic and membership meeting. The theme for this year's get together will again be "The Fun of Fall and the Halloween Season!"  We are hoping to be joined by some of our Scarecrow friends!!  We will be having our Annual Picnic come rain or shine as our pavilion has plenty of space and cover.

  Our picnic is being catered by The Pizza Wagon.  The custom menu of pizzas will include Traditional Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, Spinach White, Buffalo or Barbecue Chicken and Margherita.  Our caterer for this event will provide a side salad as well.  Soda and water and soft pretzels will be provided by the Club.  We are hoping to have waffles and ice cream too!

  NOTE: This is a bring your dog event. We will have a Doggy Costume Parade with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best dressed so dress your PWD!

  It’s All About Tricks and CGC:

  We will review tricks and play with the addition of new tricks.  Our Club President, Judy Murray, will be available to test our PWDs.  If you have a specific level you want to test your PWD at, you will need to bring the required equipment specific to that level.

  Judy will be testing for Canine Good Citizen (CGC) as well.

  There will be a Photo Booth where you can take pictures with your dog.

  Silent Auction:

  Always a favorite. Donated items will be auctioned off via silent auction.  If you have an item you can contribute to our Silent Auction, please include that information when you register/sign up for the picnic.

  Merchandise:

  Over  the past year we have updated our designs and purchased new colors and styles. We  are excited to offer KPWDC merchandise for sale during the picnic.

  The Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club and the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America will be holding a Supported Entry at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks, PA 19456 on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

   Portuguese Water Dogs will be showing in Ring (TBD) starting at (TBD) with Sweepstakes and Veterans Sweepstakes.  Lynn Green will be our Sweeps and Veterans Sweeps judge.  Regular Classes will take place immediately after Sweeps in Ring (TBD).

  The KPWDC will be holding a General Membership Meeting immediately following the PWD's showing in the ring. We plan on providing sandwiches, chips,  and bottled water.  

  Of course, anyone can attend both the Supported Entry and our meeting, so bring a friend (or two) with you!!
