The fee for the Fundamentals Agility Workshop is $50.00 per team, (which is one individual and one dog). Registration will close at 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at which time there will be no refunds unless your spot is filled by another team. All registrations will be on a first come first basis. Once both workshops are full, a wait list will be created. Waitlist individuals will be contacted by phone and email if a spot becomes available.
This Agility FUNdamentals workshop will cover the foundations of agility training in a way that's appropriate for dogs and puppies four months and older. Your dog or puppy should have a basic sense of working with a handler in a group setting and the ability to focus on the handler around other dogs (on leash and at a distance). Agility is about much more than running full obstacle courses with your dog.
In this workshop, we will cover:
- Building connection between you and your dog
- Improving dogs' body awareness
- Teaching dogs how to think and learn through shaping
- Introduction to the foundations of some agility obstacles
You'll walk away from this workshop with a glimpse into the foundations of agilitytraining and some exercises that you can practice at home with minimal equipment needed!
What to bring:
- Lots of high value treats, (light colored treats that are easy to break apart but do not crumble) Cut up string cheese is great.
- A tug toy, and the longer the better, (not a ball or chew toy or anything with a squeaker)
- Water Bowl
- Water for your dog
- A 6 foot leash and a flat buckle collar or harness.
- Crate Pad, (optional)

The instructor for the Fundamentals Agility Workshop is Lynsey Heffner, Training Director at Y2K9s Dog Sports and Training Club.
Lynsey started her canine obsession as a conformation junior handler with Rottweilers. As an adult, she pursued obedience with her French Bulldog and she got bit by the agility bug in 2015. She trained two French Bulldogs, Zubi and Zelda, in agility and they both have reached the Masters level in AKC and earned their CPE Champion Trial Champion (C-ATCH) titles. Her French Bulldogs have also appeared in national TV commercials. She currently trains her shelties, Kiwi and Vision, in agility. She began her professional career as a teacher and continues to work in education technology. She loves teaching beginning level agility and foundations to folks who may be starting out with a nontraditional breed or are new to dog sports.
